It’s one of the most common questions any beauty therapist or MUA is asked. “What eyebrows suit my face?”. We all know how quickly an extra stroke of brow gel or too much tweezing can change our brows. Your eyes are the windows to your soul, meaning that your eyebrows frame your face. Choosing eyebrows that suit your face shape is easier than you think.
Eyebrow trends come and go – just think of all the overplucking of the early 2000s. Thanks to Cara Delevingne and Emilia Clarke, we’re all talking about brows again. This guide will help you see which eyebrows will accentuate your natural features and which styles you want to avoid.
Shaping your eyebrows
While most of us book in for a regular wax and tint, maintaining the shape between appointments is equally important. There’s no denying that it’s a life skill. Eyebrow shaping is an art form that takes some trial and error to master. You want your brows to look as balanced as possible. While your brows aren’t twins, they should still look like sisters.
The easiest way to shape your brows is to use two shades of product to help give an extra dimension to the shape. Use the deeper shade at the natural arch of your brow, filling in the tail. Go back in with the lighter shade to fill the front section of your face.
Here’s your fool-proof guide for which eyebrows work with your face shape.
Round Shape Face: It’s all about the height!
If you have a round face shape, the length and width of your face are similar in size. You want your brows to help elongate your face to give the illusion of a slimmer appearance. You can take your brow inspiration from celebrities like Mila Kunis, Isla Fisher, and Drew Barrymore.
With a round face, you want to focus on a high arch. You can start by filling your brows at the arch, making them darker at this end to emphasise the height and shape. Brushing your brows upwards will naturally lift your face.
Oval Shape Face: Keep it soft
You fall into the oval category if your forehead is wider than your chin and if you have high cheekbones. You want your brows to help balance out the juxtaposition in your facial features. You can take your brow inspiration from celebrities like Beyonce, Julia Roberts, and Rihanna.
With this face shape, you can wear virtually any brow shape. It’s best to stay away from the overplucked look as it’s not on-trend, but a soft angled arch is usually your best friend.
Square Shape Face: Stick to thick brows
If you’re lucky enough to fall into the same face category as Angelina Jolie and Keira Knightley, you want to recreate their thicker brows. A square face is when your features are all the same size, so you want to use your brows to accentuate your eyes.
Stick to thicker brows with a slight angle to the arch, softening the colour to add extra dimension.
Heart Shape Face: Round Brows
If you have a sharp chin with a wider forehead, you’ve got a heart-shaped face. You join the likes of Scarlett Johansson, Cheryl Cole, and Reese Witherspoon. You want to use your brows to help soften your face.
Round brows will balance out the sharpness of your jaw, and it’s best to stay on top of your brow maintenance with this face shape.
Long Shape Face: Long and flat
If you have a longer face with your features being the same width, you want to balance out the length of your face by giving the illusion of extra width. You can achieve this by drawing your brows out horizontally and keeping them flat. Avoid going with too high of an arch and keep it soft and light at the tail. You can look to Gisele Bundchen and Kelly Rowland for your brow inspo.
Figuring out your face shape will make it easier for you to master the art of shaping your brows. While the products you use matter, choosing the right shape will make or break your routine.
